James C. Leonard, III was recently
appointed Deputy Assistant Secretary for Textiles, Apparel and Consumer
Goods Industries in the International Trade Administration at the
U.S. Department of Commerce.
For 34 years, Leonard worked for Burlington Industries, one of
the world's leading softgood manufacturers whose products include
apparel, home fashions and commercial carpets. He served as Burlington
Industries' Director of Government Relations and Manager of Economic
Analysis. He has also advised the government on textile bilateral
and multilateral trade issues and has served as an advisor in
negotiations concerning NAFTA and WTO agreements.
In February 2001, Textile World Magazine recognized Leonard for
his service and dedication to the textile industry in its annual
"Top 10" listing of textile industry leaders from around
the world.
A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Leonard is married
with two sons.
