What are NCI's plans for using the NHIS to monitor cancer control issues in the future?

Ten questions on cancer screening and sun protection will be included in the 2003 NHIS Core. These questions, taken from the 2000 NHIS Cancer Control Module, will be administered to approximately 30,000 adults.

NCI plans to continue collaborating with the CDC Cancer Prevention and Control Program to monitor use of cancer prevention services included in the Healthy People 2010 Objectives. To monitor these objectives, the two agencies will sponsor a Cancer Control Topical Module every 5 years (including all decennial Census years), and 10 questions in interim years. CCM questions reflect current scientific and programmatic concerns as well as needs for Healthy People 2010 monitoring.
