Background

Anne Henderson is a program officer in the Institute's Professional Training Program. Formerly a professor of political science at the College of William and Mary and at Gardner-Webb University, she has also worked for the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. She served as an electoral supervisor in Bosnia, working with local officials and international observers to ensure that post-war elections were conducted freely and fairly. Additionally, she collaborated with non-governmental organizations and international agencies on issues of post-war refugee repatriation and settlement in Serbia, Croatia, Macedonia, and Kosovo. As a Mellon fellow at the Brookings Institution, her research and publications focused on the process of post-communist political and economic transitions in the former Soviet bloc. While a Fulbright fellow, she resided in Hungary, Poland, Romania, and the former Yugoslavia and pursued her research interests in democratization, ethnic conflict, and the transition to market economies. Henderson received an A.B. in government from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in political science from Yale University.
