To provide American citizens direct online access to the basic Federal Government documents that define our democratic society, a core group of current and historical government publications is being made available for free, permanent, public access via the GPO Access service. These titles contain information which is vital to the democratic process and critical to an informed electorate. They support the public's right to know about the essential activities of their government.

DOE Federal R&D; Project Summaries

The Federal R&D; Project Summaries Web site is a portal to information about Federal research projects, complete with full-text single-query searching across databases residing at different agencies, developed by the Department of Energy's Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI).

DOE GrayLIT Network

Developed by the Department of Energy's Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI), in collaboration with DoD, NASA, and EPA, the GrayLIT Network is a portal for technical report information generated through federally funded research and development projects. Gray literature is foreign or domestic open source material that usually is available through specialized channels and may not enter usual systems of publication, distribution, bibliographic control, or acquisition by booksellers or subscription agents, or agencies.

DOE Information Bridge

Sponsored by the Department of Energy's Office of Scientific and Technical Information and GPO, the Information Bridge provides bibliographic records and the full text of DOE sponsored scientific and technical information from January 1995. This includes information from DOE, its laboratories, energy centers, and contractors. The site provides numerous search and display options. For additional related resources see the Energy Files web site. Earlier information may be found in the printed bibliography, Energy Research Abstracts, and in selected depository libraries.

Department of State Foreign Affairs Network (DOSFAN)

Department of State Foreign Affairs Network (DOSFAN) Electronic Research Collection provides permanent access to non-current Department of State information, with links to the current DOS web site. The ERC is a partnership of United States Department of State, University of Illinois at Chicago, and the Government Printing Office.

Environmental Health Information Service (EHIS)

The Environmental Health Information Service (EHIS), has been developed by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). So that the NIEHS can better serve the community of environmental health scientists, regulatory agencies, and the interested public, it is offering its major publications and reports online. Federal depository libraries are being provided free access to this new service through an arrangement with NIEHS and the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) (free access provided, by password, IN a depository library).

Federal Bulletin Board (FBB)

GPO's FBB is an electronic bulletin board service that Federal agencies use to distribute electronic files to the public and to provide to the public free, immediate, and self-service access to Federal information in electronic form. Access information from the White House and Executive Branch agencies.

GPO Access Online Databases

GPO provides free electronic access to a wealth of important information products produced by the Federal Government. The information provided on this site is the official, published version. Search databases such as the Congressional Record and Code of Federal Regulations for Congressional and regulatory information. Popular reference material is available as well.

National Atlas of the United States

The National Atlas of the United States delivers easy to use, map-like views of America's natural and sociocultural landscapes. The new National Atlas includes products and services designed to stimulate children and adults to visualize and understand complex relationships between environments, places, and people. The updated National Atlas is designed to provide a reliable summary of national-scale geographical information. Though it cannot provide detailed map information,the Atlas directs users to other sources for this information.

National Climatic Data Center Online Document Library

The National Climatic Data Center is providing no charge access for the Federal depository libraries to access the Online Document Library located at http://www5.ncdc.noaa.gov/pubs/publications.html Libraries may access the Monthly Climatic Data for the World, Storm Data, and Local Climatological Data via this controlled access site (free access provided, by password, IN a depository library).

A service of the Department of Commerce, Economics and Statistics Administration, STAT-USA is the online source for current and historical business, trade and global economic information produced by the U.S. Government (free access provided, by password, IN a depository library).

University of North Texas Research Collections

GPO and the University of North Texas (UNT) Libraries have formed a partnership to provide permanent online access to electronic publications of selected federal Government agencies which have ceased operation.
