Promoting the
Site and Keeping It Up to Date
Promotion
Tips
If users can't find
your site when they need it, it isn't usable. Promotion
activities may include:
- Find other sites
that should link to your site
- Form a relationship
with other sites to encourage linking to your site
- Work on methods
to improve your ranking on search engines
- Draft and distribute
press announcements to use on other sites and in other media
- Change content
on a regular basis and let your users and sites that link to your
site know about these changes
Site
Maintenance
When you plan the
site, you must also plan for maintaining it.
- Plan for adding
and changing content
- Check links on
a regular basis
- Budget for keeping
content current
Occasional
Redesign
Sites also need
occasional redesign.
Reasons:
- Users may change
- Expectations
may change
- Technology may
change
Things to avoid:
- Using "latest
and greatest" technology for no reason
- Don't change
too dramatically or too often
- Don't blindside
users with substantial changes let user know before you make
changes
