The NTRC's Heavy Vehicle Safety Research Center (HVSRC) is working with the Federal Highway Administration to develop finite element crash analysis simulations of heavy vehicles impacting highway infrastructure objects. This simple animation depicts a single-unit truck impacting a rigid roadside barrier. Simulations similar to this are instrumental in the design and qualification of roadside safety hardware for passenger vehicles. The HVSRC and FHWA are collaborating to extend this technique to heavy vehicle safety.
