Medical Oncology Clinical Research Unit (MOCRU)

Medical oncology research efforts in the Center for Cancer Research reside in multiple Branches and Laboratories. MOCRU is an administrative clinical organization that spans across these organizations and has three primary areas of responsibility: (1) clinical research, (2) clinical care, and (3) clinical training.

In support of clinical research, MOCRU provides: (1) access to clinical research infrastructure, (2) access to collaborators and/or advisors, (3) formal scientific review of ideas or studies arising outside of the clinical research setting, (4) mechanisms for assuring quality control and quality assurance of research data, (5) standardization of clinical research procedures for principal investigators and research nurses, (6) core resources to facilitate or perform endpoints in the execution of clinical studies, and (7) a community for all CCR investigators engaged in clinical research in medical oncology.

In support of clinical care, MOCRU provides: (1) administration for inpatient and outpatient care services, (2) a core of dedicated clinical personnel (MD/NP/PA) to support all patient care activities, (3) clinical care colleagues for advice and standardization of care practices; and (4) a community for all those engaged in clinical care of medical oncology patients independent of Branch or Laboratory appointment.

In support of clinical training, MOCRU provides: (1) administration of the medical oncology fellowship program, (2) a setting for optimal training in clinical research and clinical care, and (3) guidance for fellows throughout their fellowship years independent of career track (basic, preclinical, or clinical research).
