Operational Entomology Training Course course will be accepted as refresher training for the EPA category 8

"This is an Original Posting"

NDVECC Bangor will be offering our annual Operational Entomology Training course at Camp Pendleton from 14-23 June. This course is designed to provide training in vector/pest surveillance and control procedures in a field environment, refresher training in entomological aspects of vector-borne diseases, and hands-on pesticide applicator equipment training.   In addition, PMT's that are near expiring in their category 8 pesticide applicator certification can be re-certified by attending this course.

I highly recommend that PMT's and other FDPMU team members attend this training, especially given the current operational tempo of our teams.  This course will provide the opportunity for PMT's to re-familiarize themselves with pesticide applicator equipment and vector/pest surveillance procedures; training that they will likely need if deployed to OIF.

If you have PMT's or other FDPMU personnel that you would like to send to this course, please contact Dr. Bill Tozer, Head of our Education
and Training Department to request a course quota by e-mail to Dr. Bill Tozer, 360-315-4450, DSN 322-4450.

Environmental Health Perspectives Survey for Clinicians

"This is an Original Posting"

Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP), the official journal of the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences, is the highest impact (Citation Index Impact Score: 3.5) and most widely distributed Environmental Health journal in the world. As of January, 2004 it also went completely "Open Access", with all articles freely available and downloadable ( http://ehp.niehs.nih.gov/docs/admin/openaccess.html). Over the last few years, EHP has been making a concerted effort to cultivate the interest of physicians and other clinicians. EHP is now looking for feedback on its current appeal to clinicians and how we might improve that appeal. IF YOU ARE A CLINICIAN, please consider responding to the VERY BRIEF and informal questions below and emailing the response to Darlene Bramble (Assistant to Howard Hu, M.D.-Medical Editor of EHP) at: dbramble@hsph.harvard.edu. Please respond by 15 March 2004. Thank you. Howard Hu, M.D., M.P.H., Sc.D. - Medical Editor

Important items/updates for NDRS users

"This is an Original Posting"

Attention NDRS users! Three items of immediate interest for PMTs/NDRS users:

1. Follow this link to instructions on how to add a new UIC to your NDRS database: .
2. The NDRS Epi section pages are now produced in a plain text/low bandwidth version that will enhance viewing shipboard or in areas of minimal bandwidth. That can also be found on the hyperlink given above.
3. NMCP Portsmouth was attacked Feb 18, 2004 by mass-mailing worms using .zip files to spread their malicious payload. To deal with this, Charette MID has completely blocked zip files, and deleted those found on servers, some of which could be NDRS export files. Since we have no way of knowing what files have been blocked or deleted, anyone who has submitted a data file to NEHC after Feb17, 2004 is requested to re-send this data. Export dates can be set back to capture previously-exported records without harm. Please give Charette MID time to resolve this outbreak, and wait to re-transmit your files until Feb 25, 2004.

Your cooperation is appreciated. Any questions or technical information needed please email: NDRS@nehc.med.navy.mil
