Conversations With America

Calendar of upcoming public events

A federal program called Conversations With America is designed to encourage public comment on how to improve government services to citizens. The following monthly calendar lists meetings that provide forums for public questions and comments.

TVA Board Meeting

October 27, 9:00 a.m. (CDT)
Hopkinsville, Kentucky – Christian County Conference and Convention Center
The Board of Directors meets to conduct TVA business and review input from the public. Persons wishing to address the Board must register prior to 9 a.m. the day of the meeting. Dates and locations are tentative until published in the Federal Register and distributed to the media seven days prior to the meeting.

Watauga River Regional Water Authority Board Meeting

October 4, 6:00 p.m., (EDT)
Elizabethton, Tennessee - Truman Clark Health Facility
The Watauga River Regional Water Authority Board will be meeting to make business decisions related to regional water supply. TVA staff will attend to provide support and advice related to regional water supply planning and development.

Mid-South Aquatic Plant Management Society Meeting

October 4-6, 1:00 p.m., (CDT)
Mobile, Alabama - Radisson Admiral Semmes Hotel
TVA staff will attend the 23rd annual Mid-South Aquatic Plant Management Society meeting. Presentations during this meeting will include regulation updates, report on the enforcement of the Alabama Noxious Weed Control Act, native aquatic plant propagation and restoration techniques, technical research paper, industry updates, and new and alternative management techniques for aquatic plants.

2004 North America Power Quality Interest Group Annual Meeting

October 6-7, 8:00 a.m., (CDT)
Nashville, Tennessee - The Tennessee Engineering Center
A staff representative will speak on current power quality and reliability projects of general interest to utilities and energy users. The objectives of this meeting are: Interest Group (PQIG) is a unique forum for power quality experts, regulators, equipment vendors, manufacturers, and energy providers to discuss power quality issues, including industry trends, standards information, system compatibility, specific end-use segments, and the technical aspects of particular projects. The expert forum environment allows for the detailed and free exchange of ideas and opinions. This meeting will be co-hosted by EPRI, TVA, and Nashville Electric Service. Madison County Watershed Advisory Committee

October 12, 10:00 a.m. (CDT)
Huntsville, Alabama - Charles H. Stone Agriculture Service Center, Cook Avenue
Madison County Watershed Advisory Committee will conduct its bi-monthly meeting. Committee members are working to address nonpoint source pollution issues in Madison County. TVA is a partner in the watershed improvement efforts and serves as a technical advisor.

Boone Watershed Partnership

October 12, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. (EDT)
Johnson City, Tennessee - Appalachian RC&D Office
The Boone Watershed Partnership will meet to discuss Cash Hollow Creek, Sinking Creek, and Little Creek TMDL status and sub-watershed meetings in Beaver Creek and Buffalo Creek. TVA is a partner in this meeting and in the watershed improvement efforts.

Flint River Conservation Association

October 12, 6:30 p.m. (CDT)
Huntsville, Alabama - Place TBD
Flint River Conservation Association will conduct its bi-monthly board meeting. The Association is working with local citizens to address nonpoint source pollution issues in the Flint River Watershed. TVA is a partner in the Association’s watershed improvement efforts and serves as a technical advisor.

Subcommittee on Water Availability & Quality

October 14, 1:00 p.m. (EDT)
Washington, D.C. - White House Conference Center
The Subcommittee on Water Availability & Quality (composed of representatives from most federal agencies and departments) is attached to the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources of the Office of Science and Technology Policy. The group will be meeting to discuss issues related to water availability and water quality. TVA is a member of the subcommittee and staff will attend to provide support and input on relevant water supply issues within the Tennessee Valley Region.

Upper Tennessee River Roundtable Conference

October 14, 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. (EDT)
Saint Paul, Virginia - Oxbow Center
As part of the Upper Tennessee River Roundtable Conference, TVA staff will share results and insights from the Growth Readiness track at Tri-state Low Impact Development conference in Wytheville, Virginia, in May 2004. At that conference, participants considered how their communities were likely to grow. They reviewed projections of how expected development might impact water resources, and what best practices their community might adopt to have both growth and water quality.

Tennessee Valley Poultry Litter Task Force

October 18, 10:00 a.m. (CDT)
Cullman, Alabama - Cullman County Electric Cooperative
The Guntersville/Tims Ford watershed team will facilitate the Tennessee Valley Poultry Litter Task Force meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to share information pertaining to poultry nutrient management nationwide and explore innovative alternatives in nutrient management pertaining to the poultry industry.

Water, Science, and Policy in the 21st Century - Symposium

October 18-19, beginning at 1:00 p.m. (EDT) October 18
Knoxville, Tennessee - University of Tennessee
The symposium will discuss water issues in the 21st century, including the intersection of science, research, and water policy. A meeting of the Southeastern Natural Resource Leadership Group will be held as a part of the symposium. Local, state, and federal representatives from the Tennessee Valley region will be in attendance.

Sand Mountain Lake Guntersville Watershed Conservancy District

October 19, 7:00 p.m. (CDT)
Woodville, Alabama - Woodville High School Library
TVA staff will attend the monthly meeting of the Sand Mountain Lake Guntersville Watershed Conservancy District in support of the group’s efforts in working with area farmers to address nonpoint source agricultural issues and provide technical support as needed.

Water Supply Partnership Meeting

October 20-21, beginning at 1:00 p.m. (EDT) October 20
Knoxville, Tennessee - TVA West Tower, Conference Room WT2 180
A meeting of all Tennessee Valley States, EPA, USGS, and TVA will be held to discuss the potential for a Valley-wide partnership to look at water quantity issues. This meeting and potential partnership is a result of recommendations made to TVA by the Regional Resource Stewardship Council. It is anticipated that all states will be represented and the meeting will be facilitated by TVA.

Southeast Watershed Roundtable

October 27-29, 8:00 a.m. (EDT)
Nashville, Tennessee - Gaylord Opryland Hotel
A forum will be held to discuss the topic Growth, Development & Water Supplies: Challenges for the Southeast. As greater than 95 percent of water supply from within the Tennessee watershed is from surface water, TVA staff will attend to provide support and input to the forum on water availability within the Tennessee Valley.

Growth, Development & the Future of Southeast Water Supplies Conference

October 28 and 29, TBD (CDT)
Nashville, Tennessee - Gaylord Opryland Hotel
As part of the Growth, Development & the Future of Southeast Water Supplies Conference, staff will present TVA’s pilot program for Industrial Site Conservation Design. The program helps industrial developers and their consulting engineers make design decisions that reduce their site’s impact on water quality and quantity. Also, staff will present research by TVA on the Economics of Non-Structural Best Management Practices.

Joint Institute for Energy & Environment (JIEE) Luncheon

Knoxville, Tennessee - University of Tennessee Faculty Club
A luncheon will be held to discuss activities related to Joint Institute for Energy and Environment and member institutions. As TVA is a member of JIEE, TVA staff will attend to provide support and input on proposed activities.
