About FireSafety.gov

FireSafety.gov is a one-stop information resource on the Internet for residential fire safety and prevention information distributed by the Federal government.

The goals of FireSafety.gov are to:

  1. Increase the level of individual concern and awareness of vulnerability to fire.
  2. Educate and inform the U.S. population about how personal responsibility and action is key to preventing fires and fire-related casualties.
  3. Provide a timely, coordinated and easy-to-access source of information about how individuals can prevent fires and fire-related casualties.
  4. Inform visitors about the Public-Private Fire Safety Council.

FireSafety.gov is a web portal: it contains listings of residential fire safety resources contained on other Federal web sites, primarily the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/Injury Center, Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the U.S. Fire Administration. Resources on FireSafety.gov are organized into two primary sections: the FireSafety Directory and Reference Materials.

The FireSafety Directory contains links to materials that help to inform and teach about residential fire safety and prevention. Information is targeted towards a variety of audiences:

  • At-Risk Populations, such as children, older adults, mobility-impaired persons, deaf or hard of hearing persons, blind/visually-impaired persons, rural communities, etc.
  • Fire / Life Safety Professionals and Community Volunteers
  • The Media, and
  • The General Public

Information contained in the Reference Materials section includes statistics and data; funding opportunities; where to order publications; forms; the latest fire-related consumer product recalls and links to other fire safety sites.
