NASA LaRC has a requirement to upgrade an existing Fibertek, Inc. breadboard single longitudinal mode Nd:YAG based pump laser operating at 1064nm wavelength, which has the following specifications: Maximum Pulse Energy = 300 mJ/pulse, PRF = 50 Hz, Pulse width = 25 ns, and output beam diameter = 6 mm. This upgrade will increase the existing laser from 300 mJ/pulse to yield up to 1.2 J/pulse with a mode quality M^2<2. The purpose of this upgrade is to obtain higher pump pulse energy with beam quality to efficiently pump an UV optical parametric oscillator.
NASA/LaRC intends to purchase the items from Fibertek, Inc. pursuant to FAR 6.302-1 (Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements).
Given Fibertek’s intimate knowledge of the existing laser system design and proprietary nature of their new technology, Fibertek is the only known available source to meet this requirement.
The Government does not intend to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. See Notes 22 and 26
Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice.
All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency.
An Ombudsman has been appointed. See NASA Specific Note "B".
