Description

This is a modification to the synopsis entitled REQUEST FOR INFORMATION FOR THE SPACE COMMUNICATIONS ARCHITECTURE WORKING GROUP, Solicitation No. RFI-04-HBD-003 which was posted on July 14, 2004. You are notified of the following:

The purpose of this amended request is to collect information that will be relevant to planning NASA's ground network for the future Space Communications Architecture. This request falls within the overall description of the previous solicitation.

At present, the Space Communications Architecture is being planned within NASA. With this Request for Information, NASA is seeking information for cost estimates for services related to ground stations to perform the following functions: 1. Telemetry, tracking, and control (TTC) of lunar orbiters with 24 hours, 7 days coverage. The estimate may assume that as many as three (3) orbiters will be present at any one time but that coverage is only when orbiters are not obscured by the moon. 2. Telemetry, tracking, and control (TTC) of Government Earth orbiters with 24 hours, 7 days for Launch Early Orbit and Anomaly (LEO and A) coverage. The estimate may assume the present number of thirty (30) NASA satellites. Also anomaly coverage is required for NOAA satellites.

The following can be assumed for both situations: 1. The estimated start date for such services will begin in 2009. 2. The TTC will operate at Unified S-Band (USB).

Cost and reliability estimates are requested by September 15, 2004, or earlier. Estimates received after that date will also be useful, but less impactful.

No procurement is planned for this request or as part of the Space Communications Architecture planning activity. However, companies interested in describing their technology to NASA are encouraged to supply documentation in a format of their choosing. You are encouraged to monitor this site as additional amendment posting(s) may follow.
