Description of the Graphics
Click on a map to get a zoomed in view. The top-left graphic shows
where recent river gage readings are available, and are colored according
to their values. The values are no older than 12 hours earlier than
the date/time stamp on the graphic, but are the most recent values we
have received as of the date/time stamp on the top of the graphic.
The top-right graphic is basically the same, but forecast values are plotted
instead of observed readings.
Orange, magenta, and red dots represent river points that are in flood.
Yellow dots represent those which are under flood stage, but are high
enough to merit some internal action (e.g., perhaps a crest forecast is
issued, or a forecast is issued more frequently). Green dots represent
stages that are below the action stage and are not high enough to merit
much hydrologic concern. Black dots mean that the status couldn't
be determined (perhaps because of some missing data).
The bottom two graphics are precipitation maps. The bottom-left
map shows observed precipitation whereas the bottom-right shows forecast
precipitation. Neither gives any indication of the precipitation
type (rain, sleet, snow, etc.). This is handled by our models through
temperature forecasts when winter precipitation is expected.
These maps are generated automatically and may be posted to this web
site before quality control measures have been completed on the data.
