Humphrey Bogart, an actor, was born in New York on January 25, 1899. He was never the subject of an FBI investigation, but his name appeared in numerous cross references which were processed. There are copies of letters mailed to Mr. Bogart which were furnished to the FBI by the Chief of Police, Warner Brothers Studio, and the FBI's Laboratory reports with the results of their examinations of the letters. He started appearing in the theater in the 1920's and Warner Brothers Studio put him under contract to appear in movies in 1935. Humphrey Bogart advised Ed Sullivan of the New York Post that he was not a member of the Communist Party. This conversation took place during the hearings of the House Un-American Activities Committee. Mr. Martin Dies, Chairman of the Committee, declared that Mr. Bogart had never been a member of nor sympathetic to the Communist Party. Mr. Bogart died on January 14, 1957, in Los Angeles, CA.
