What if I want to stay longer than the time initially authorized by the DHS when I entered the U.S.?

Versión en español

If you wish to stay beyond the date authorized on the I-94 form stapled in your passport at the port of entry, you must apply directly to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) office in the United States for an extension. If you stay beyond the period authorized by the DHS without getting the proper extension, you will jeopardize you chances of qualifying for visas in the future.
