The APTS Mobile Showcase
Program ended its tours in 2003. It demonstrated and displayed state-of-the-art proven transit technology
and served as a platform for researching and evaluating integration of
advanced technologies. The APTS Mobile Showcase provided a traveling
display area for technologies provided by manufacturers, suppliers, and
vendors of transit equipment. This Program was a partnership between
the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), the US DOT Volpe National Transportation
Systems Center (Volpe Center), transit equipment manufacturers, suppliers,
and vendors, transit agencies, and consultants.
The APTS Mobile Showcase
Program’s mission was to promote the development and deployment of APTS
and ITS technology that improve transit safety, operations, and cost-effectiveness.
The Mobile Showcase Program accomplished it mission by providing a platform
for demonstrating the latest proven technologies and for researching ITS
technology integration issues and supporting the continued development
of transit industry integration standards. The Mobile Showcase used
proven state-of-the-art technologies for its mission. Opportunities
for demonstrating and researching prototype technologies were also be provided.
The primary audiences for the Mobile Showcase were transit agencies (transit authority board members, senior staff, technicians) and the manufacturers, suppliers, and vendors of transit technology. The Mobile Showcase also highlighted technologies to other interested individuals and organizations including elected officials, academia, the media, and the general public.
In addition to demonstrating proven new transit technologies and traditional “high tech” APTS/IVI /ITS technologies ranging from those that improve operations, such as automated vehicle location (AVL) systems, improve communications, such as mobile data terminals, improve passenger service, such as real-time information kiosks, and improve safety such as pedestrian detection technologies, the Mobile Showcase also featured transit-related classes.
