ATSDR ToxFAQs™ and ToxFAQs™ en Español 2003 CD-ROM

ATLANTA - The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), a public health agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, today announced the release of the ATSDR ToxFAQs™ and ToxFAQs™ en Español 2003 CD-ROM, which features a series of chemical-specific fact sheets summarizing hazardous substances.

The information on the ATSDR ToxFAQs™ and ToxFAQs™ en Español 2003 CD-ROM focuses on frequently asked questions (FAQs) about health effects from exposure to specific substances found at hazardous waste sites. Each fact sheet serves as a quick and easy-to-understand guide.

The chemical-specific fact sheets contain selected information from the ATSDR Toxicological Profiles (Tox Profiles) and the ATSDR Medical Management Guidelines (MMGs.) Tox Profiles describe toxicological properties and potential health effects information for specific hazardous substances. The MMGs provide recommendations for on-scene (pre-hospital) and hospital emergency room medical management of patients exposed during a hazardous materials (HAZMAT) incident.

ATSDR, a federal public health agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, evaluates the human health effects of exposure to hazardous substances. Established by Congress in 1980 under the Superfund law, ATSDR conducts public health assessments at each of the sites on the EPA National Priorities List, as well as other sites when petitioned. Headquartered in Atlanta, ATSDR is staffed by more than 400 health professionals including epidemiologists, physicians, toxicologists, engineers and public health educators.
