What Is The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR)?

NAVAIR programs provide advanced warfare technologies through the efforts of a seamless, integrated, worldwide network of aviation technology experts. From aircraft and weapons development to carrier launch and recovery; from sensors to real-time communications to precision targeting; from aircraft and weapons sustainment to state-of-the-art training; NAVAIR provides dominant combat effects and capabilities to the American warfighter.

NAVAIR is an Echelon 2 Command (reporting directly to CNO) who's dual mission encompasses:

  1. Responsibility for the development, production, and technical support of aircraft and airborne weapon systems for the Navy and Marine Corps


  2. Type Commander (TYCOM) responsibility for NAVAIR aircraft

In that regard, the goals of the NAVAIR Safety Program are to:

  1. Increase readiness throughout the Navy by reducing aircraft systems damage and personnel injuries caused by product deficiencies


  2. Ensure the safe operation of NAVAIR aircraft and production activities, and protect the safety of NAVAIR personnel through proactive safety awareness and operational risk management
