The Defense Spectrum Office is responsible for developing comprehensive
and integrated spectrum planning and long-term strategies for
DoD spectrum access. The DSO is the DoD focal point for participation
in national spectrum issues, international spectrum coordination,
and for pursuing emerging spectrum efficiency technologies in
DoD acquisitions. The purpose of the DSO is to maximize global
spectrum access for US forces both now and for the future.
DSO Responsibilities
- Assist OASD(NII) in Spectrum Management Policy, Strategic
Planning, and Oversight
- Develop Comprehensive and Integrated Planning Strategies
for DoD Spectrum Access
- Provide Coordination and Execution of Solutions for DoD and
Joint Spectrum Issues
- Provide Recommendations for the Integration of Spectrum Supportability
and Insertion of Spectrum-Efficient Technologies into DoD Acquisition
Policy and Procedures
- Maintain an Emerging Technology Awareness and Analysis Capability
- Develop Efficient Spectrum Management Processes using Advanced
Technology and Techniques
- Provide DoD Participation at National Spectrum Management

- DoD Lead for all International Spectrum Issues; World Radiocommunication
Conference (WRC) Representation and Agenda Item Ownership
- Oversee Analyses and Studies Supporting DoD Spectrum Use
- Chair, Military Communications Electronics Board (MCEB) Frequency
