Physiological Mechanisms of Growth and Multiple-Stress Reponses in Norhtern Forest Trees

Research Mission

Develop fundamental knowledge of physiological processes and ecophysiological variables that control growth of northern forest trees and determine their response to multiple environmental stresses.  Emphasis is on understanding the physiological processes of carbon and nitrogen allocation and their interactions as determinants of tree growth, and on translating knowledge gained from controlled environments to the field and from seedlings to larger trees.

Research Programs
bullet

Carbon allocation and carbon-nitrogen interactions controlling the growth of northern tree species.

bullet

Effects of elevated CO2, ozone, and water stress, and their interactions on carbon fixation, allocation, and carbon-nitrogen interactions in northern forest trees.

bullet

Identify new clones of willow and other species suitable for multiple societal benefits
