Long-term climate variation in the Mojave Desert Ecosystem

Annual rainfall has been measured in the Mojave Desert since 1900. The graph of this data shows rainfall measured from June 16 to June 15 for each year from 1900-1994, averaged from eight weather stations. Some apparent patterns in the data show:

El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) events in this time period,
the longest drought of the century (~1945-75), and
the longest wet period (~1900-40).

Interpretations of these patterns are preliminary.
