10/12/2004 - SAN ANTONIO (AFPN) -- The continuing Air Force role in Operation Enduring Freedom highlights the latest edition of Air Force Television News. Tech. Sgt. Joy Josephson explains the resupply mission by Air National Guard C-130 Hercules units operating from Uzbekistan. Another aspect of the service’s contribution to peace in the region is that of security forces, called Ravens, who provide much-needed security during the resupply flights.

Staff Sgt. Melissa Allan is at McGuire Air Force Base, N.J., to witness the departure of the base’s last C-141B Starlifter, as the aircraft is retired from active duty. She explains how the C-141 is being replaced by C-17 Globemaster IIIs there.

The Air Force’s senior leaders discuss the continuing problem of suicide, and what the service is doing to combat it. Their comments came during an internationally televised town hall meeting at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Staff Sgt. April Lawrence visits Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland AFB, Texas, to report on how Air Force physicians, nurses and medical technicians use reconstructive and cosmetic surgery in peacetime to hone their skills for war. Since a significant percentage of wounds received on the battlefield require such surgery, the peacetime training keeps the medical community trained on techniques and procedures.

Staff Sgt. Michael Noel has the story of another project at Wilford Hall called HELOIS, a new approach to weight control, one started by the Air Force as it continues its program to produce healthier, more “fit-to-fight” Airmen.

Tech. Sgt. Rusty Barfield covers a ceremony at Hickam AFB, Hawaii, commemorating the return of the remains of three servicemembers who fought and died in three different wars. The ceremony came during the annual observance of POW/MIA Day.

Staff Sgt. Mike Tateishi visits Air Force Space Command headquarters at Peterson AFB, Colo., where the command is playing an increasing role in missile and space defense.

Finally, Tech. Sgt. Paul Hughes is in a small village in the Czech Republic along the German-Czech border as residents there pay tribute to pilots lost during a mission over Krushnori.
