The expansion of computing and communications throughout society and the economy has prompted many questions about the effects of information, communications, and computational technologies (IT). Although we lack full understanding of the effects of IT on our work and lives, there have been many studies in many fields which provide scattered insights. The Division of Science Resources Statistics (SRS) has gathered information about existing data and research on the social and economic implications of IT and placed it on the Web for use by researchers, analysts, and the public.
