Q. How many veterans are registered in Department of Defense's Comprehensive Clinical Evaluation Program?

A. As of January 2001, 57,048 have registered in the program. Of these, 16,180 have declined a medical exam. Of the remaining 40,868, requiring exams, 94.23 percent are complete. 2,357 exams are in process. (CCEP Report February 2001)

The DoD established the Comprehensive Clinical Evaluation Program to provide in-depth evaluations of Gulf War veterans who are currently in one of the active or reserve components, or are retired. Personnel who want medical examinations are encouraged to contact the program to set up an appointment.

If you are a Gulf War veteran currently in one of the active or Reserve components, or are retired, you can register to receive a medical examination through the CCEP. Call (800) 796 - 9699 or DSN 878 - 3261 to set up an appointment.

Additionally, personnel who served in Southwest Asia during the war or since that time, and their eligible family members, may also request to have a medical examination through the CCEP.

Q. I'm living in the United States and am currently serving in the Armed Forces. How do I register for the CCEP?

A. If you are a Gulf War veteran currently in one of the active or Reserve components, or are retired, you can register to receive a medical examination through the CCEP. To register, call (800) 796 - 9699 or DSN 878 - 3261 to set up an appointment.

Additionally, personnel who served in Southwest Asia during the war or since that time, and their eligible family members, may also request to have a medical examination through the CCEP.

Q. I served in the Gulf War and would like to be evaluated, but am no longer active duty. What are my options?

A. The Department of Veterans Affairs offers a free, complete medical examination through the Persian Gulf Registry with basic laboratory studies to every Gulf War veteran who is no longer in military service. Family members of Gulf War veterans are also eligible to receive a Registry medical examination. To register, call (800) 749 - 8387.

Q. I'm currently living in Europe and would like to receive a medical examination. How do I register in either the CCEP or the VA's Persian Gulf War Registry Program?

A. To register in the program from an overseas military installation with access to DSN, call (312) 878-3261.

If you are overseas without access to DSN, the direct line for CCEP is (408) 583-2500. They're open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., Pacific Standard Time - time zone "Uniform."
