JUNTOS DISTANCE LEARNING PROJECT (JDLP) INSTRUCTOR
General Statement of Duties:
The JDLP Instructor provides one-on-one and small-group instruction in English and Spanish for adult learners who are studying for their GEDs in a distance-learning program. The Instructor provides classroom instruction to complement Distance Learning programs (computer and video) for learners who will be engaged in intensive independent study. The instructor screens, orients, instructs, assesses and counsels GED learners and supports tutors who provide assistance to learners. The Instructor will also provide educational counseling and referrals and participate in staff and program development activities.
Responsibilities
Work with Holyoke Tutor/Mentor Program Coordinator to recruit adult learners
Conduct orientation sessions for distance learning students
Administer student assessments
Maintain student records and program statistics
Select and develop appropriate materials, and facilitate learning activities for one-on-one and small-group learning sessions, and coordinate curriculum with Distance Learning computer software and video programs
Provide educational counseling to learners and be available for regular office hours
Provide direction and support to volunteer tutors as needed
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree
Experience working with learners in Adult Basic Education settings and experience with and/or a serious commitment to working with people of diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds
Excellent computer skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills in Spanish and English
Flexibility and willingness to adapt teaching style to students with various backgrounds and needs
Experience working with Distance Learning Programs strongly preferred
Supervision:
The JDLP Instructor reports to the Program Coordinator of the Holyoke Tutor/Mentor Program, a project of the Greater Holyoke Chamber of Commerce.
Compensation:
This position is funded for one-year as a full-time (40 hour/week) position. Pay is $17.48/hour with benefits.
