HELP Using this Site!
Welcome!
According to our most recent in-depth user needs analysis, nearly one third
of the people visiting our site today are first-time users of opm.gov website.
For their sake as well as that of experienced users who may be looking for something
completely new, we've put our "Help" link in prominent position on
most of our pages. You're important to us, and we want to make it as easy as
possible for you to find what you need. Peruse the following links to familiarize
yourself with our site layout, navigation and features.
Layout of OPM.GOV
In addition to the global information available via one-click from the home
page, the site is organized in three audience categories. We realize there's
a lot of overlap in information among the categories, so there's significant
cross-linking.
-
Strategic
Management of Human Capital will lead human resource representatives,
managers, and executives to information and policy guidance categorized
under the topic pillars of Talent,
Leadership
& Knowledge Management, Performance
Culture, and Human
Capital Strategy.
-
Employment and Benefits
allows retirees, veterans, managers, executives, as wells as employees and
their families to locate information about the benefits programs administered
on their behalf as well as work life programs.
-
Career Opportunities
guides job seekers, employees and students to job listings, promotion opportunities,
federal scholarships and other information on obtaining federal employment.
In addition to the three primary audiences noted above, we also provide a link
for contractors, vendors and other commercial entities. The primary public link
to this contact can be found on our About the
Agency page. On this page the link is labeled Vendor/Procurement
Information.
OPM.GOV is the one-stop source for federal jobs and employment
information for the federal government. Our revamped USAJOBS
website features a quicker job-search engine, sorting capacities, and accessibility
for disabled users. Other new features include storage for up to five online
resumes, a personal career management home, an option to make resumes searchable
by agency recruiters, and an opportunity to create and save application letters.
Navigating Around Our Site
There are multiple ways to navigate. Across the top of pages displaying our
redesign template you'll note links to:
Across the bottom of each page are other popular links, including:
Where are you? Where do you want to go?
Directly under the page header you'll find "breadcrumb navigation",
appropriately labeled "You are here," which tells
you where you are. Select any segment of it to trace your path backwards in
the site hierarchy. Don't forget your browser's "BACK" button. If
you see our logo on this or other sites, chances are that selecting it will
bring you back to our home page at www.opm.gov.
Looking for specific topics?
In the top right corner of each page you'll find a "Search" option. Using it can be as easy as typing in a key word and pressing enter. There's also basic help using our search engine, as well as help to do more complex searches.
