RAMADI IN PATH OF OPERATION HURRICANE II
Sept 18, 2004

CAMP BLUE DIAMOND, Iraq -- At 3 a.m., Sept 18, Multi-National Forces-Iraq began the second sweeping operation in Ramadi this week, Operation Hurricane II.
The goals of the operation are to disrupt the Daham terrorist network and to discover and remove illegal weapons and ammunition caches in the city.

The Daham terrorist network is responsible for a wide spectrum of terrorist and criminal activities against the Iraqi people and the Multi-National Forces-Iraq in the Al Anbar Province.

Operation Hurricane II involved Soldiers and Marines from the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Marine Division.

The operation follows Operation Hurricane I, which occurred Thursday in a different section of the town, and resulted in the detention of four suspected Anti-Iraqi Forces members, the removal of six improvised explosive devices and the confiscation of IED making materials, including cell phone parts.

Multi-National Forces-Iraq continue to make every effort to protect innocent civilians and minimize collateral damage effects while conducting operations. The Multi-National Forces-Iraq stand committed to assist Iraqi Security Forces in providing security to the people of Iraq.
