Marines provide construction, security and farming aid
June 18, 2004

AR RAMADI, IRAQ -- Marines in the Al Anbar Province took several steps to aid the Iraqi people in improving quality of life and security today.

Marines in Fallujah awarded contracts to renovate the Al Railet Primary School at cost of $23,547 and the Thalanorean Primary School at a cost of $12,903. An additional contract for renovations to the Buchra School was also signed at a cost of $40,000. The projects will be performed by Iraqi labor and will assist in providing a quality environment for Iraqi school children to study.

The police chief of Nassir Wa Al Salaam was given a new car by Marines encamped there. The police chief also reported that construction and renovation projects to the Iraqi Police station were proceeding as scheduled.

Marines also signed a contract to purchase an ambulance for the city of Saqlawiyah. The city was lacking in emergency medical response. The ambulance will boost their ability to meet the needs of their citizens.

In a contract costing $23,210, the Marines purchased seeds for Iraqi farmers today. These seeds will help farmers boost their crop yields and offset local food shortages that might have come due to fighting in the region earlier in the year. The seeds will be delivered to the farmers in the coming days.
