INSURGENTS FIRE ON CIVILIANS
Sept 26, 2004

CAMP BLUE DIAMOND, Iraq -- Anti-Iraqi Forces fired several rounds of indirect fire into a Ramadi neighborhood today.

Marine radars tracked two rounds from point of origin to the point of impact in the neighborhood. Marines fired artillery counter battery fire at the point of origin, four kilometers north of the city. Contrary to media reports from Al-Arabiyah, no Marine artillery rounds fell within the city limits.

Great care is taken to minimize the risks to noncombatants and sites of cultural significance during counter battery fire missions. Insurgents often take the opportunity to blame their errant rounds on Multi-National Force-Iraq.
