Basic Search - Author/ Creator Sorted by Title
The "Author/Creator Sorted by Title" search locates works
by the name of the author, and sorts the results by title, with
editions of the same work grouped together. Note: for librarians,
this is commonly referred to as a "name/title" search.
This search is particularly useful for finding works of musical
composers, as well as for authors whose works may have been issued
in many editions.
NOTE:
Search limits are not available.
Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT)
are not available.
References and Scope Notes:
In search results, some retrieved headings will not link directly
to catalog records, but will supply the user with links to related
headings or scope notes (marked with the icon) as illustrated in the
screen below.
Search Tips:
- In order to search the title portion of a heading directly,
you must enter the entire "name"
portion of the heading preceding author heading, including dates
when present (e.g. dvorak antonin 1841-1904 concerto...
).
- Always omit initial articles (a, an, the, das, el, la, etc.)
in any language.
- Always omit initial punctuation in any language (e.g., quotation
marks, ¿). Also, replace other punctuation with a space.
(Exception: drop apostrophes and close up the space.) See
examples, above.
- Searches are automatically truncated and retrieve catalog records
that begin with the words or phrases you enter. Do not use the
question mark (?) for truncation..
Alternative Search Options:
When the exact form and word order of an author heading
is not known, try either a Command
Keyword or a Guided
Search using the words of the author's name and the title
that you do know with Boolean operators (e.g., gottschalk
AND mazurkas).
