Steve Allen was the victim of two extortion attempts. The first attempt demanded $30,000, be sent to him or he would bodily harm Steve Allen. The letter was sent to CBS New York, thinking that he lived in New York, when he was a resident of Los Angeles. The United States Attorney declined prosecution on this matter. The second attempt threatened to shoot Steve Allen accusing him of being a communist. Name of the person whose signature was on the letter was interviewed and he/she could not read or write the English language, having immigrated from Russia 13 years before. Other letters were received, but no subjects were identified. Mr. Allen is the subject of a correspondence file. This file contains information about Morton Sobell and SANE.
