New funding approved to address Metro's short-term capital needs
On Oct. 14, Metro's Budget Committee voted to approve a $3.3 billion funding agreement to address Metro's short-term capital needs, including new rail cars, new buses and infrastructure and security improvements. The agreement commits state and local governments to the six-year plan, termed "Metro Matters." The plan also assumes funding from the federal government. See Metro Matters.
Metro Transit Police to honor slain officer Marlon Morales
Metro Police will honor Marlon Morales with a special plaque at the U Street-African American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo Metrorail station on Monday, Oct. 18. Officer Morales was shot in the line of duty on June 10, 2001, at the U Street station while intervening in a fare dispute. See Morales honored press release.
Metro board to host first town hall meeting in November
Metro's board of directors will host its first Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Metro headquarters, 600 Fifth St., NW, to talk to customers on a variety of issues dealing with Metrorail, Metrobus and Metroaccess. See the town hall press release for details.
Metrorail open 30 minutes earlier on weekdays
Metrorail began running at 5 a.m. weekdays, effective Monday, Sept. 27, 2004. Stations open 10 minutes before the first train leaves, but opening times and first train times vary by station. Check this timetable to see when your station opens and when your first train leaves.

Shuttle bus service during elevator upgrade at Metro Center
A complete modernization of both platform-to-mezzanine elevators at Metro Center began Tuesday, Sept. 7, and be completed by Tuesday, Nov. 16, during which time the elevators will be out of service. Temporary shuttle bus service will be available on request. See Metro Center press release.
