About the SES Program

The SES Candidate Development Program at HHS is a comprehensive, 6 to 18 Month program. The program provides career enhancement and executive skill Development for GS-14 and GS-15 (or equivalent work experience) employees with high potential for the SES ranks.

Key Features

  • Orientation with participation by the Secretary/Deputy Secretary and Operating Division Heads
  • High-level briefings on departmental priorities and important initiatives Provided by Executives from across the department
  • Interagency Executive training
  • Self-selected Mentor
  • Executive level departmental assignment

Applicant Characteristics

Applicants should be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Competency to lead, direct and evaluate programs and activities
  • Interest in health and well being of the American public
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills

Evaluation and Selection Process

Applicants will be evaluated based on the quality and extent of their total accomplishments, experience, education and potential to master the Five Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs), which are criteria used by the Office of Personnel Management to certify candidates for the Senior Executive Service.
