Abstract

The Office of Boating Safety oversees the program for the prevention of recreational boat casualties. Activities of the Office include enforcement of Federal laws and regulations, establishment of pleasure craft safety standards, administration of public education and training programs, and maintenance of liaison with others concerned with boating safety. The Program Development and Implementation Division develops and administers a public information program, which includes distribution of literature to the general public and public service announcements for radio and television. The Office maintains a toll-free customer infoline, which provides access to safety information.

Publications

The Office distributes pamphlets on Federal requirements for recreational boats, alcohol and boating, marine communications, lighting, hypothermia, emergency repairs, visual distress signals, boat accident and registration statistics, the volunteer Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the Customer InfoLine.
