Abstract

The National Center for Education in Maternal and Child Health (NCEMCH), located at Georgetown University, provides information services and technical assistance to organizations, agencies, and individuals with an interest in maternal and child health (MCH), public health policy and systems of care. Information services provided by the National Center consist of bibliographies, lists, and referrals generated from its databases, publications and photocopies and loans from its library. Bibliographies cite materials in the library which contains policy papers, agency reports, conference proceedings, annuals, guidelines, and materials on the history of MCH. Reports and products produced by grantees of the Maternal and Child Health Bureau of the Public Health Service are a special focus of the collection. The National Center also maintains databases on MCH organizations and on projects funded by or administered by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, particularly Special Projects of Regional and National Significance (SPRANS), and Community Integrated Service systems (CISS). The National Center is not funded to collect clinical medical information. Beginning in 1992, materials in the NCEMCH library are listed in the Combined Health Information Database (CHID), an online electronic database which is available for direct searching at http://chid.nih.gov. The library is publicly accessible by appointment.
