The purpose of this association is to promote the quality practice of health education and health promotion as core disciplines of public health practice and to advocate for quality health education/health promotion programs and strategies to address the nation's leading health problems. The Association represents 55 directors of health education/health promotion units of state health departments and the health departments of the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam and American Samoa as well as the eleven directors of the health education units of Indian Health Service Area Offices. ASTDHPPHE also has approximately 25 associate members and members emeritus.
