POSITION: Ecologist/Research Hydrologist/Research Engineer

LOCATION: Tifton, GA

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The position, located at the Southeast Watershed Research Laboratory in Tifton, Georgia, contributes to the ARS Conservation Effects Assessment Project-Watershed Assessment Studies (ARS CEAP-WAS) Program. The assignment is to: 1) use modeling approaches (SWAT, AnnAGNPS, and REMM) on sub-watersheds of the Little River Watershed in Georgia to conduct an analysis indicating whether sub-populations of watersheds can be identified that have distinct responses to conservation practices; 2) estimate the magnitude of model error at multiple (nested) small watershed scales; and 3) work in collaboration with ARS modeling groups nationally to improve model code.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Recent Ph.D. in ecology, hydrology, agricultural engineering, or related physical science is required. The position requires a person with training in programming, database development and management as well as interest in modeling hydrology and nutrient cycling in agricultural systems. In addition, desired skills are: 1) skills in computer information technologies and use of high-end software tools; 2) skills in statistical methods, particularly those relevant to time series and spatial analyses; 3) knowledge of scientific principles of natural resource management; 4) experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software. Ability to work across disciplines and excellent oral and written communication skills are expected.
