POSITION: Research Geneticist

LOCATION: Miles City, MT

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The incumbent will be a Research Geneticist at Fort Keogh Livestock and Range Research Laboratory. The Laboratory=s mission is to increase understanding of biological processes involved in ecologically sustainable and economically viable beef production systems that satisfy consumers' demands. The incumbent will contribute to a project for improving seedstock selection decisions to facilitate cost-effective production of high quality beef by 1) identifying a restricted set of individuals to be genotyped from a pedigreed population such that probability of detecting a QTL is maximized using allelic peeling; and 2) comparing the power of allelic peeling with selective genotyping of extreme progeny.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Recent Ph.D. in animal breeding, genetics, statistics (or related field) is required. Knowledge of statistical methods used for prediction of breeding values and marker-based mapping of quantitative trait loci are required. Ability in computer programming is highly desired.
