POSITION: Research Plant Pathologist

LOCATION: Beltsville, MD

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: This position is located in the Soybean Genomics and Improvement Laboratory, Plant Science Institute, Beltsville Agricultural Research Center. The incumbent will independently and cooperatively research plant-fungal protein interactions and plant proteomes in relation to disease resistance in legume crops using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry and other proteomics techniques. The incumbent will integrate proteomics information with transcriptional data, manipulate and manage large datasets, keep detailed records of experimental data and will disseminate information in scholarly journals and at professional meetings. The incumbent will be required to observe all aspects of safety, security and storage of hazardous, infectious and controlled materials.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Recent Ph.D. in Plant Pathology, Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Bioinformatics or closely related field is required. Knowledge of protein identification, protein-protein interactions, protein purification or bioinformatics data processing (Perl, C++, Java, Oracle, MySQL) is required.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Selectee will need Limited Background Investigation (LBI) security clearance to work in a containment greenhouse and will be subject to pre-employment suitability review. Any offer made is considered a tentative job offer pending the outcome of the pre-employment check. Retention in the position is based upon a favorable adjudication of LBI.
