POSITION: Microbiologist/ Research Animal Scientist

LOCATION: College Station, TX

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The position is located in the Food & Feed Safety Research Unit, College Station, Texas. The incumbent will measure rates of acquisition of antimicrobial resistance among populations of commensal and pathogenic gut bacteria grown in continuous flow culture. Populations will be cultured on selective and differential media supplemented with low and high concentrations of test antibiotics to enumerate sensitive and resistant bacterial phenotypes and will be tested using molecular methods to determine acquisition rates of nonphenotypically expressed resistance genes when in the presence or absence of transmissible elements ubiquitous to such environments.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Recent Ph.D. in Microbiology or a closely related field is required. Experience with the culture and isolation of microorganisms and with molecular biology are desirable.
