POSITION: Research Animal Physiologist

LOCATION: Beltsville, MD

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The Biotechnology and Germplasm Laboratory in Beltsville, Maryland has an immediate opening for a two-year Research Associate position. A major objective of the Laboratory is to develop improved technologies for preserving genetic diversity in poultry through increasing current knowledge of poultry sperm physiology and function after cryopreservation. The incumbent will investigate the impact of genetic variation among elite commercial poultry lines with respect to sperm physiology and the efficiency of semen cryopreservation. As part of their research, the incumbent will be responsible for performing sperm cryopreservation, in vitro sperm function assays and artificial insemination of semen samples from pedigreed layer stocks. The incumbent also will assist with development of new sperm function assays that predict the fertility of frozen/thawed poultry semen.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Recent Ph.D. in Animal Physiology or a closely related field is required. Knowledge of reproductive biology and/or poultry breeder management practice, and the ability to prepare manuscripts for publication is desirable. Skill in assisted reproductive techniques, assay validation and/or statistical analysis is preferred. Contact information for three references must be provided with the application.
