DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The position is located in the Southeast Poultry
Research Laboratory, Athens, GA. The incumbent=s overall responsibilities
are to develop a recombinant Newcastle disease virus (NDV) vaccine based
on expression of NDV genes under control of an anaerobically inducible
promoter in Salmonella which induce mucosal immunity against NDV (ENDV).
The successful candidate will investigate the innate, humoral, cellular
and mucosal immune response of avian species to vaccination with the
recombinant-NDV vaccine and examine protection from exotic ENDV challenge.
Different strategies using the recombinant-NDV vaccine in conjunction
with commercially available NDV vaccines will be developed to decrease
the amount and duration of virus shed following ENDV challenge.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in Microbiology or a related field
with knowledge of immunology, virology, biochemistry, and immunological
techniques is required. Experience with ELISA, western blot, and flow
cytometry, as well as standard molecular biology techniques including
recombinant DNA technology is preferred.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: This position requires the selectee to undergo
