POSITION: Research Chemist/Research Biochemist

LOCATION: Peoria, IL

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Bioproducts and Biocatalysis Research Unit at the National Center for Utilization of Agricultural Product, Peoria, Illinois. The project will focus on metabolic flux analysis using stable isotope techniques to elucidate the F6PPK fructokinase pathway in Bifidobacterium species. The incumbent will use metabolic flux data obtained from GC-MS and NMR analysis and the existing genome sequence to construct a model of carbohydrate metabolism in Bifidobacterium spp. that utilize the bifid shunt. The anticipated global analysis of metabolic flux will use a variety of methods including: GC-MS, LC-MS, carbohydrate analysis, and HSQC and HMBC 2D-NMR, in conjunction with isotopic labeling techniques.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Recent Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field is required. Experience in mass spectrometry, NMR, and carbohydrate techniques is desirable. In addition, experience with bacterial biochemistry and metabolism is desirable.
