Abstract

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, formerly the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, is the primary source of Federal support for research on problems related to the quality and delivery of health services. (The Healthcare Research and Quality Act of 1999 reauthorized the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, changing its name to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).) The Agency responds to the need for better data and information, new techniques, and innovative methods for improving health care delivery. The AHRQ's programs evaluate health services, assess technologies, and improve access to new scientific and technical information for research users. Research findings are disseminated through publications, conferences, and workshops. The Agency's research is targeted toward the needs of health care policymakers, including executive and legislative officials at Federal, State, and local levels; health care administrators; and others with responsibility for health care resource allocation.

Publications

The Agency's publications are available through the AHRQ Publications Clearinghouse. The address for the clearinghouse is AHRQ Publications Clearinghouse, P.O. Box 8547, Silver Spring, MD 20907-8547. Electronic requests may be made to: info@ahrq.gov.
