The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) was formed when Eating Disorders Awareness & Prevention (EDAP) joined forces with the American Anorexia Bulimia Association (AABA) to create the largest eating disorders prevention and advocacy organization in the world. NEDA sponsors National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (NEDAW) held during the last week of February each year. There are over 500 NEDAW coordinators--health care providers, teachers, social workers and eating disorders professional-- who distribute educational materials and organize awareness and prevention events in high school and college campuses, in hospitals and community centers in all 50 states and Canada. We also operate a Toll-Free Information & Referral Helpline at 1-800-931-2237, the first eating disorders information and referral source of its kind in the world, linking more than 1,200 callers per month to vital information and life-saving treatment. Our searchable database for more than 600 treatment providers throughout the U.S. and Canada is also available on oyr website (www.NationalEatingDisorders.org), which currently receives more than 5,000 hits per day--approximately 2 million hits per year! We ditribute curricula, including Healthy Body Image, GO GIRLS!, and the 5-Day Lesson Plan, to school districts throughout the nation. NEDA's annual conference, held each autumn, provides a unique opprotunity for those with eating disorders and their families to connect and share up-to-theminute information with treatment and research professionals.
