Dominican Republic - Central America Free Trade Agreement
Section IconA On March 15, 2004, the Dominican Republic was integrated into the free trade negotations for the U.S.-Central America Free Trade Agreement. With its integration into the CAFTA, the Dominican Republic has assumed the same set of obligations and commitments as Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua.

The United States and the five CAFTA countries signed the CAFTA FTA on May 28, but the period of Congressional consultations required for the Dominican Republic has not yet concluded. A date for signing an agreement that includes the Dominican Republic will be announced after those consultations are complete.
