Yes. The $600 credit can be used for any drug that falls under the definition of “covered discount card drug” even if the drug is not offered for a discount (i.e., is not on the sponsor’s formulary). The definition of “covered discount card drug” is very broad and includes most prescription drugs with a few exceptions. The exceptions include: over-the counter drugs, weight-related drugs, fertility drugs, cosmetic drugs, drugs for the symptomatic relief of coughs or colds, vitamins, barbiturates, and benzodiazepines. Also, drugs that would otherwise be covered for a particular individual by Medicare Part B would be excluded from the definition of “covered drug” for that individual.
