Can I receive the discount if I don’t want to use any of the $600 credit?
  Question
Can I receive the discount if I don’t want to use any of the $600 credit?
  Answer
For a beneficiary with access to the $600 credit, and assuming that some of these funds remain in the person’s account, he or she cannot receive the discounted price of the drug only. In order to take advantage of the discounted price, the discount card itself must be used, in which case the credit will be applied if such funds remain. The reason for this stems from operational limitations of drug card sponsors' claims adjudication systems. An individual can always choose not to present his or her discount card at the pharmacy, and therefore pay cash for the entire cost of the prescription. However, if the beneficiary chooses not to present the card, the full usual and customary cost of the drug will be charged to the individual – the person will not benefit from any discounts made available through the discount card.
