Abstract

The American School Food Service Association (ASFSA) was established in 1946, the year the National School Lunch Act became law. ASFSA continues to be the only organization in the country devoted exclusively to protecting and enhancing children's health and well-being by operating nutritious foodservice programs and providing proper nutrition education in public and nonprofit private schools. ASFSA's mission is to advance good nutrition for all children. Its primary activities are providing education and training; setting standards through certification and credentialing; gathering and transmitting regulatory, legislative, industry, nutritional and other kinds of information related to school nutrition; and representing the nutritional interests of all children.
