Abstract

The Iron Overload Diseases Association (IODA) was organized to serve hemochromatosis patients and families, to encourage research and public information, and to press for earlier diagnosis and more effective treatment of iron overload diseases. The associations current projects include: annual international symposium; professional education (nutritionists and dietitians); public education ( annual IOD week, 3rd in September). The association also provides information on Hemochromatosis Genetic Testing and laboratories that perform these tests. The IOD Association is a nonprofit organization and was founded in 1981.

Publications

The Association publishes booklets about iron overload diseases appropriate for patients and professionals, and a brochure about the Association. Serial publication: Ironic Blood (newsletter), bimonthly--information on hemochromatosis and patient news.
